In the latest directive from Dr. Racht, the Phergan dose has been lowered. Does anyone have some insight or reason why we have made this change? I talked to a few RN's today and the said it not a common dose of 6.25mg, but they have used it before when pt are small in size. I have looked on-line and keep find our old dosing of 12.5mg for n/v. If anybody knows plz share or tell me where I can look up and read the info. I'm already planning calling a SrTO on Monday while at work and see if they can shed some light on my head.

John,

Check out the education update link at the ATCOMD website. Here is a link to the file:

Educational Update 8/17/2006

This will give the rationale behind all of the changes. Hope this helps.

I saw a sign at Seton, a yellow paper sign outside the x-ray room across from the billing folks at the ambulance entrance, that gave some reasons why Seton has adopted the same phenergan dose.

Studies done said that lower dose had the same affect on nausea without the sedation. Sometimes the sedation is a good thing in my book. I thought it was stange and had never heard of adults getting the lower dose but I read the link the Ed put out. Randy

There is a dept in Idaho that is pretty progressive medically that uses the same 6.25mg dose as we have now adopted, and I think their reasoning was consistent with the reasoning behind our change. The dept. is Ada County EMS, a third service county dept. similar in some ways to our...much smaller and slower, though.
