I regret that I've been unable to make more of the Combined Clinical Council meetings due to my other full-time job. (As hard as I've tried, I've been unable to break my addiction to a paycheck...)
However, I've been reading the meeting agendas. Can anyone explain why we're trying to transmit 12 leads via cellular technology to the ERs? As I understand it, a system-credentialed ALS provider can call a "Code STEMI" already. What added benefit is there from transmitting a strip to the ER from a 21st century version of Johnny and Roy's BioPhone?
There may be a great reason (and I'll bet someone at CP can explain why), but at this moment, it looks like a step back to Rampart and the days of "Mother, may I?" medicine.

Laurie:
Maybe I'm mis-reading the 9/13 CCC agenda as posted on the OMD website, but here's something I cut and pasted from it:
CLINICAL DEVELOPMENT 12 Lead Transmission implementation (Shamard)

Sounds like something none of us have heard of yet.....this will be about the 10th version of attempting to transmit EKG's for me...I started out with a Motorola Radio just like Johnny and Roy did in 1976 transmitting from a 70lb monitor...didn't work then, not sure why now...Bill

At the risk of being controversial, might it be possible that this is some sort of "reassurance" that we're giving to the cardiologists who might not think that paramedics are capable of reading a 12-lead?
If you ask me, this doesn't seem like a step forward, clinically speaking...
