Hudson Bend FD Gets New Name

It's safe to say it's a good thing when your current property insurance premiums are about to go up in flames. That's just what's about to happen for those in the Hudson Bend Fire Department's district.

"We're excited about our insurance ratings coming up. We think they're going to be very favorable and we think that most of the homeowners are going to see a savings in their insurance bills," Chief Jim Linardos, with the Hudson Bend Fire Department said.

The last time Hudson Bend was evaluated was in 1996. The department has improved a lot since then and that will reflect in what you pay your insurance company.

"As a homeowner out here, I'm always for lower insurance rates, lower everything. That's great," Bob Fuller, a homeowner said.

It comes on the heels of yet another big change that involves the department's rather small name. About 12 years ago when the Hudson Bend Fire Department was last evaluated, it handled calls only in Hudson Bend, which is about seven square miles. But since that time, the fire department's district has grown to include a large chunk of Lake Travis and many of the residential areas around it.

It's changing its name to Lake Travis Fire-Rescue to reflect the community and the people it serves.

"We feel that the Lake Travis Fire-Rescue name really represents this community as a whole, so people can identify with us when we pull up in areas other than in Hudson Bend," Asst. Chief Robert Abbott said.

The department will go through an entire redesign from its equipment and gear to its logo. It's an idea that has a practical reason to let people know there's a fire department there for them, and it's not borrowed from another part of Travis County either.

The official name change will go into effect Friday.
